Ellie-May Whelping Log

We always keep a detailed log on our bitches as they go through their pregnancy. We find this really useful to refer back to for future mating's/deliveries. So for those who are interested I will be recording here an extract of the full log on Ellie-May throughout the stages of her pregnancy and her whelping and over the first 8 weeks of her puppies lives until they start to go to their new homes.

Date Action/Activity
27th October
Good news - we had a successful mating with Chami this week and are now counting the days until we scan her (around 23rd November) So with a bit of luck we will have a special Christmas day delivery!!!
15th May 2007

A really BIG sorry to all those who regularly follow our web site. But we have some bad news. Ellie-May has re-absorbed her puppies so there is no patter of tiny feet. Ellie-May went to the vet yesterday and she is fine although going through a very bad phantom pregnancy - she thinks that she is having puppies as I write. So its back to the drawing board. We now plan to try again with the same mating in September - roll on Christmas puppies!!!!

Thanks to all of you who have already sent emails or telephoned we know and value all our Bloodhound friends.

For the moment then I will suspend the log until I have more news....

30th April 2007

Ellie-May is staring to show signs of babies. She is also suffering from a degree of morning sickness and has tied once or twice to hide away from the other dogs. She is definitely slowing down. I suspect that the puppies may also be moving a little - as the surprised expression on her face from time to time and then a quick close examination of her tummy by her seems to suggest she is feeling something.

The new whelping room is also finished now and we (well one of us and Ellie-May) will start to sleep there very soon. In this way Ellie-May will be very happy with her whelping bed and surrounding when the puppies arrive.

It all starts now.....!!!!

Ellie-May is showing little signs of being only less than a month off whelping - she has just spent her early afternoon walk dashing around the field with her mother and all the others ending in a really big rolling game all on top of each other. Now its really warm and sunny and they have all found places to lie out and have all gone to sleep.

I will keep the log up to date as often as I can as thing progress. So keep reading...
